If your kids get excited about pizza, they’ll love these dippable veggie-packed calzones! Let them pick out their favorite vegetables to stuff on the inside.
Ingredients:
1 Pizza dough ball from Harris Teeter or Walmart (get it at the counter. Sometimes you can find whole-wheat dough)
½ onion
1 green pepper
1 teaspoon oil
1 cup shredded low-fat mozzarella cheese
20 slices turkey pepperoni
For dipping sauce:
1 cup crushed tomatoes with basil
Optional:
Parsley for garnish
Pinch of garlic powder and salt
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 425 ℉
- Saute the veggies in oil until soft
- Roll out pizza dough ; cut into two
- Evenly divide cheese, veggies, and turkey pepperoni among among 2 calzones
- Fold and score the top with a knife. Sprinkle garlic powder and salt on top
- Bake for about 12 minutes or until golden brown
- Meanwhile, heat 1 cup of crushed tomatoes with basil in a small pot
- Cut each calzone in half and serve with ¼ cup of crushed tomatoes
